According to research by mental health charity Mind, 93% of stressed workers calling in sick lie to their supervisors. The study found employees feeling the pressure aren’t comfortable telling their bosses the truth. Although nearly one in five workers have taken a day off due to stress, most pretended to be ill or have housing problems. Paul Farmer, chief executive of Mind, warned firms that unless workers felt they could be more open about how they feel, it could have negative effects on their capacity to do their jobs."If employees don't feel they can be honest about the pressures on them, problems that aren't addressed can quickly snowball into low morale, low productivity and high sick leave," he explained. The results follow news last week that those in public sector jobs take twice as many sick days as private sector employees. Richard Simcox, a spokesman for the Public and Commercial Services Union, blamed the 14 days clocked up by public sector workers on high levels of stress.
"Labour Force Survey (LFS) in 2008/2009 11.4 million working days were lost due to corporate or work related stress."
"Health and Safety Executive survey reported in 2006 that 1 in 6 people experience extreme stress at work (corporate stress)"
These figures have increased significantly in the last two years with economic uncertainty adding to the problem and the forecast is for a continuation of the trend as the U.K. economy continues in recession and public sector spending cuts imminent. Both the Government and the World Health Organisation recognise corporate stress as being a bigger problem for business and the world economy if not taken serious. It’s time to act!
Symptoms of Corporate Stress
Corporate stress can cause both physical and emotional health problems. Corporate stress can cause you to be more prone to physical symptoms such as:
· headaches
· muscular tension
· backache and/or neck ache
· tiredness and sleep problems
· digestive problems
· a raised heart rate
· skin rashes
· sweating
· blurred vision
Chronic (long-term) corporate stress can also contribute to anxiety and depression, and corporate stress can even increase your risk of having a heart attack or stroke.
You may also be prone to psychological symptoms, because of corporate stress, such as:
· feelings that you can't cope
· irritability and mood swings
· disturbed eating patterns
· finding it hard to concentrate
· feeling less motivated
· a lower sex drive (libido)
Without recognition from U.K. Businesses the problems of corporate stress will only increase further with more lost working days, an unhappy and unhealthy workforce, increased litigation and the risk of escalating industrial action.
Hypnosis and corporate Stress Management
Durham Hypnotherapist John Richardson and Deeper Relaxed Hypnotherapy can help with stress at work.
By inducing hypnosis, for corporate stress management, you become wonderfully relaxed and highly suggestible; while in this state I will help you make positive changes in your perception of any stressful event. These changes will have the effect of altering the associations between the stressful event and how you react to them. If you re-experience this stressful event the changed perception will allow you to react calmer, more rationally and with a positive outcome.
In corporate stress management I use Hypnosis and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) to help you turn negative thought patterns into positive thinking, making you feel calmer, relaxed, and confident and in control.
I will teach you breathing techniques, positive imagery, power place and power animal techniques, in corporate stress management, which will help you in any situation.
